Parent & Caregiver Training

Training for Parents and Caregivers

Good training means everyone in the house cares for the baby in a way that fits together, and feels sure of themselves when the moment comes. The content adapts to whether you are a parent, a relative or a hired helper, and nobody is tested to be found wanting.

What this service helps with

Training for parents, grandparents and helpers so everyone caring for your newborn works the same way, from holding and bathing to feeding and the signs that mean you should see a doctor.

Who it is for

  • First-time parents who want to practise the skills before or after the birth
  • Grandparents helping to care for a newborn again after many years
  • Helpers who want to understand the family's routine and what is expected

What this service helps you sort out

  • Each caregiver holds, feeds or settles the baby a different way
  • Knowing the theory but still not feeling sure when it is time to do it
  • Not knowing which signs are common and which mean a trip to hospital

What it usually covers

  • Core skills such as holding, supporting the neck, nappy changes and bathing
  • Feeding guidance, winding, and how to tell whether the baby is getting enough
  • Setting up the sleep space and a routine that suits your baby's age
  • How caregivers communicate and share the work between them

The actual scope is shaped around each family's situation and is agreed with the team before care begins.

How it works

Step 1

Who is learning

We talk about who cares for the baby and what each person wants to practise.

Step 2

Set the topics

Skills are chosen for your baby's age and your family's situation.

Step 3

Practise

You work through each step and go back over anything that still feels uncertain.

Step 4

Agree one way

The session ends with a single approach the whole household can follow.

Frequently asked questions

Can grandparents or a helper learn alongside the parents?

Yes. The content is designed for caregivers in several roles, so everyone understands the care and where each person's responsibility sits.

Is this a pass-or-fail assessment?

No. The point is to find what still needs practice and to agree one shared approach, not to label any caregiver as good or bad.

Is it at home or as a workshop?

DekNurse has a Workshop page and an at-home format you can register interest in. Availability, dates, times and fees are confirmed with the team every time.

Not sure which service to start with?

Tell the team roughly what you need and they will help shape it around your family. Nothing is booked yet, and the team confirms the scope and the date with you before any visit.

Sending the form is not a confirmed appointment. The team always contacts you first to confirm your area, the timing, the scope of care and the fee.
